The Zimbabwe mining industry formally stepped into a new phase of strategic reflection and investment positioning today as the Chamber of Mines Annual Mining Conference officially opened its Main Indaba in Victoria Falls, setting the tone for high-level engagement on the future of the sector.

The official opening, marked by a strong sense of expectation across government, industry executives and international delegates, was led by Mines and Mining Development Minister Polite Kambamura, who served as Guest of Honour at the flagship session.

The atmosphere at the conference venue reflected a sector at a crossroads — balancing record global demand for critical minerals with the internal need for stronger infrastructure, policy alignment and investment confidence. Delegates from across the mining value chain gathered for what is widely regarded as the most influential dialogue platform in Zimbabwe’s extractive industry calendar.

In his opening remarks, Minister Kambamura framed the mining sector as a central pillar of national economic transformation, urging stakeholders to move with urgency in converting geological potential into measurable industrial output. His address set the tone for a conference focused not only on production, but on value creation, competitiveness and long-term sustainability.

The Main Indaba also highlighted the growing shift in Zimbabwe’s mining narrative — from resource extraction to integrated mineral economies supported by energy security, infrastructure development and financial innovation.

Industry leaders, financiers and policymakers are expected to spend the coming sessions interrogating investment flows, beneficiation models, regulatory reforms and the role of technology in modernising mining operations.

Unlike previous editions, this year’s opening carried a stronger sense of urgency, with stakeholders acknowledging that global competition for mineral investment is intensifying, and jurisdictions that offer stability, clarity and efficiency are more likely to attract capital.

As the conference officially gets underway, attention now turns to the key thematic discussions that will shape the rest of the indaba — including investment structuring, artisanal mining formalisation, and strategies to increase Zimbabwe’s share of global mineral value chains.

For many delegates, the opening ceremony signaled more than the start of a conference — it marked a renewed push to reposition Zimbabwe as a competitive and credible global mining destination.
